Health Awareness

Michelle is doing her part to help raise health awareness but to also support charities that are close to her family and friends.

Organ & Tissue Donation Australia; on the 6th June 2000 Michelle’s Grandma was a lucky recipient of a Kidney Transplant. If it wasn’t for the generosity and the fact that another person was an organ and tissue donor than my Grandma may not be here today. Just over 17 years later and Michelle’s Grandma is still fit and healthy. All of Michelle’s family are now registered organ and tissue donors and encourage everyone to register as one organ and tissue donor can transform the lives of 10 or more people.

Pancreatic Cancer; In 2009 Michelle’s Uncle Noel passed away of Pancreatic Cancer he was 68 and had always been fit and healthy. This was not the first death from Pancreatic Cancer, Michelle’s cousin Carmel Pickup’s (Noel’s daughter) grandmother and great-aunt all died of this same disease.

For as long as Carmel she can remember she was told how much she looked like her father, but there was one trait she desperately hoped she hadn't inherited. Several years ago Carmel asked her doctors to be screened she was told there was no known genetic link. Carmel persisted and was enrolled in The St Vincent’s Hospital Study, the Doctors found a cyst on Carmel’s pancreas, which is now being closely monitored.

The program, a first for Australia, for screening asymptomatic people with a high risk of developing pancreatic cancer in an effort to catch and treat the disease early.

Avalon Jade’s Journey; Avalon is a beautiful and special young girl of the amazing Kristie Chambers. Kristie is one of Michelle's amazing ladies who attend Michelle's Fun Female Fitness Classes!

Avalon was born in 2011 at 30 weeks gestation, via an emergency caesarean section. When Avalon was one year old she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy spastic diplegia. Avalon's condition affects one arm and both legs.  She also suffers from distonia, which affects her balance.

Avalon has been attending NAPA Intensive sessions and has just received fantastic news that they will be heading overseas in 2 ½ weeks for life changing surgery! The ongoing treat is very expensive so if you can spare anything and help this family it would be greatly appreciated.
